The internet eh? Where to begin. Everyone knows the internet is so huge that it is generally beyond comprehension, all that is except those poor souls that subscribe to services like AOL, who only really see a packaged version of it. My first experience of the internet proper was about a year ago, when the project I was working with at the time kindly paid for a dial up account with (boo hiss) Cable Internet for me. At first, I somehow or other managed to restrict my activities to surfing the web (God, what a twee term that has become!), with the odd little browse through NewsGroups. But then 'it' happened. I downloaded Ircle 3.02 onto my trusty Apple PowerBook 1400c and it all went downhill from there. I became totally hooked on IRC, and I have the phonebills to prove it! The first channel that I ever really spent much time in was #gothic.nights on DALnet, where I could often be found lurking under the nickname of DarkZ. I remember one particular incident where I kind of scared a friend of mine Alan, who was sat next to me at that point looking over my shoulder. I got onto this particular rant about darkness surrounding us all, and how the world was going to end (for me at least) with the coming of a dark angel. Alan got worried. But then I grew bored with that, and moved on to other (more interesting some might say) things. After lurking about in various channels on DALnet, another friend of mine, Simon, got me onto IRCnet, and it is there that I stumbled across #gay-scotland. And there I have stayed. Been on there for the best part of six months now. Not all the same phone call you understand. The first person I ever bumped into in #g-s was Col, who I only met for the first time at Glinda's birthday party. In fact up until that point I had only ever met five people from the channel in real life. #gay-scotland has generally been a lot of fun for me. After all, its where I met my ex, and also now my current man. And here's me who generally hates the idea of using the net to find love! So I'd like to at this point do a huge wave to the following people from #gay-scotland: Cerberus, Glinda, Wee_John, Lemming19, Anish19, Russel, Dipsy, Degsy, Col, OberonToo, ^B|ade^, Whipper, Cakes, Tal, DaveDonut, AndiB, KenMa, Skinny, and Clueless. I apologise wholeheartedly if I've spoken to you and not mentioned your nicks here, but hey, its late and I need to be off to bed now.... |
